This is the first thought that came to my mind after seeing today’s prompt Disagree. Changing Surname after Marriage – I Disagree.
This concern has been in my mind for a quite a long time. These days I think about it a lot because it’s time for my marriage hahaha! This overthinking puts me in Dilemma.
On a serious note I disagree with the fact that women need to change their surname after marriage. I am not quite sure about other places but in our community people do follow this rule.
One of the weird reasons I have heard is that it proves you are married to your husband. But why do we women have to CHANGE it. We are already changing a lot of things after marriage.
I disagree to this point completely. I love my full name and I don’t want to change it.
My sister recently married and took her maiden name as her middle name and then her husband’s last name, instead of hyphenating it. While I’m a traditionalist, I understand your point.

Hyphenating is an option. How does your fiance feel about this? I understand your thoughts, although I did not share them. Forty-seven years ago I changed my last name to my husband’s, and I was SO proud and happy 🙂 But more and more younger women don’t like giving up their names, and I don’t think there’s anything legally saying you have to.

Thank you for your kind words. Really appreciate it. The discussion is going on. We both follow our own path. It’s just that our families should agree.

If your families are quite traditional, that may not happen 🙂

Not anywhere near this stage of life yet (haha!) but I can only imagine what my mom would say if I said I didn’t want to change my name. I think she might faint. Here’s hoping there won’t be any of that for you regardless of what you choose. Great, thought-provoking, post. 🙂

Thank you Marie 🙂
Ya, I only feel that the change of surname shouldn’t be forced.
